The Hu surname can be traced back to ancient times,with legends stating that its ancestors were descendants of Emperor Shun, withthe surname derived from the posthumous title "Hu" of Hu Gongman.During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, the Hu surnameappeared in various vassal states, but surname inheritance and evolution werecomplex. During the Qin and Han dynasties, the Hu surname gradually spread,migrating to different places due to wars and other reasons, gradually growingand becoming prominent. During the Tang and Song dynasties, many people withthe Hu surname entered the imperial court through imperial examinations, whileduring the Ming and Qing dynasties, Hu surname merchants traveled extensivelythroughout the country, accumulating wealth.
Through the analysis of historical documents andfamily tree materials, this paper finds that the residential mobility of the Husurname family in different dynasties and regions has significantcharacteristics. For example, during the Han Dynasty, the Hu surname was widelydistributed in the Central Plains; during the Tang and Song dynasties, it beganto spread to southern and southern China; during the Ming and Qing dynasties,with the prosperity of commerce, some Hu surname families migrated to coastal areasand even overseas. Especially during the Ming and Qing dynasties, the migrationand settlement process of the Hu surname family in Laiwu, Shandong Province,has been researched in detail. Through family tree and inscription materials,this paper reveals the lineage inheritance and residential mobility of the Husurname in this area.
Furthermore, this paper explores the reasons for theresidential mobility of the Hu surname family, including wars, economicfactors, and policy orientations. These factors have had a profound impact onthe migration paths and residential distribution of the Hu surname family indifferent historical periods. Through the research on the residential mobilityof the Hu surname family, this paper not only enriches the research content offamily history and population history but also provides an important perspectivefor understanding social changes in the historical process of China.
